The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

The Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) is a unique tree planting initiative created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022 which invites people from across the United Kingdom to “Plant a Tree for the Jubilee.”

Everyone from individuals to Scout and Girlguiding groups, villages, cities, counties, schools and corporates will be encouraged to play their part to enhance our environment by planting trees during the official planting season between October to March. Tree planting will commence again in October 2022, through to the end of the Jubilee year.

The Parish Council would like to mark this event by giving residents of Parham a fruit tree to plant in their gardens to commemorate the special occasion (one per household). As a tribute to the etymology of the name ‘Parham’ we will also be planting a pear tree on each of the three greens over winter. During the Jubilee weekend in June 2022 we will plant a tree with a commemorative bench in the centre of the village.

With a focus on planting sustainably, the QGC will encourage planting of trees to create a legacy in honour of The Queen’s leadership of the Nation, which will benefit future generations and we encourage residents to join in with this project.

We will pass your name, tree details and general location (eg village) on to the Queen’s Green Canopy project to be plotted on a map of the UK which will then be presented to the Queen. By requesting a tree under this scheme, you consent for us to share details of your planting.  It will not include personal information such as your email or precise tree location.

We have a limited number of trees available. We can also offer a dwarf tree or a soft fruit bush for people who do not have space for a full size tree. We will endeavour to give you your first choice of tree. If demand exceeds the number of trees available, the Parish Council hope to run this scheme again next year.

More information about the project and how to maintain your tree can be found here:      https://queensgreencanopy.org/

Please provide the Parish Council with your details by 8th November for them to place the order at their next meeting.

We hope to distribute the trees in December for you to plant in the dormant season.
